Welcome to Oithona's Arts!

I'm June Oithona McKenzie and can offer you expert tuition or revision in English, Spanish or French Languages and also Drama. I have an M.A. And B.A. Honours degree and years of teaching experience in the U.K. also in Spain in schools and further education colleges. All classes are carefully TAILORED TO YOUR SPECIFIC NEEDS!

I have also had great success with helping pupils resit examinations and improve their grades.

ARTISTIC STATEMENT

My inspiration is the beautiful scenery of the Co.Antrim coastline and the forever changing sea . Just as the sea and the seasons are constantly changing , our own moods and emotions change also and are reflected in our expressions , so in my art I try to capture the essence of my subject matter, and the drama or emotion of the moment .

  • Anime Painting ( commissioned and sold)

    Large acrylic Painting on canvas ,commissioned to be done in animé style for her grand daughter’s bed room, as she loved this character.

  • Flapper Girl

    Acrylic on oils. The original painting has been sold but prints are available.

  • Carrickfergus Castle ( present day)

    This is a print of the original painting of the ancient Norman castle in Carrickfergus, the ancient capitol of N. Ireland.The castle was built in John de Courcy, who lived there with Afrecca his wife , a princess of the Isle of Man.

  • Carrickfergus Castle in Olden Days

    Here is a print of the original painting of Carrickfergus castle as it looked in olden times with sailing ships in the harbour.Prints are available in various sizes starting from postcard size .

  • Titanic on Maiden Voyage

    I still have both original paintings in my possession but have made copies of these. Prints , various sizes and postcards are available .

  • Titanic on Maiden Voyage

    This is a print of the original oil painting of the tragic Ill fated ship Titanic. Here it is depicted on its way to meet its fate on its maiden( and only) voyage.

  • Watching the Sunset.

    Enjoying the Myanmar sunset. This could be anywhere but was inspired and painted with permission from a personal photograph by Wipaporn Ord , a friend and prodigious Slver award tour guide. All sizes of prints available.

  • Fiddler at the Castle

    This is a print of a painting of the cheerful fiddler at the Lughnasa Fair in the castle in Carrickfergus.

  • The bending Ballerina

    A print of the original painting of the Ballerina as she performs a graceful move.

  • The Dancers

    Caught in a pose forever , this print is from a painting of a couple of ballet dancers performing.

  • The Black Hole

    The black Hole is a well known Land mark near Larne in Co.Antrim. Here it is in print and postcard form taken from one of my range of N. Irish miniatures. In this painting it is as it was in olden days.

  • The Black Hole from Belfast Lough

    This print is from a miniature painting, (now sold , but the painting can be recreated) of the Black Hole seen from a ship in the Belfast Lough. Prints and postcards are available.

  • I will build my Castle here

    This print was taken from a large painting of John de Courcy ( the Norman Knight who built the castle) as he stands on the large rock jutting out into the sea in Belfast Lough, deciding to make this spot his home from where he could control all of the maritime traffic coming up the Lough. The painting is in oils on canvas. Postcards are also available.

  • The Mariner’s Tale

    This is from an oil painting inspired by a very old etching of the castle. The figures and mist were added to make it look as though it is shrouded in mystery and make it appear like a fairy tale castle. The sky is deliberately dull except for the contrasting sunlight which is hitting the water and parts of the castle. There are postcards and prints available of the painting.

KEYRINGS

Wooden handpainted keyrings, varnished for durability and covering local scenes of Carrickfergus castle, some depicting John de Courcy (the knight who built it ) and his wife Princess Afrecca, De Courcy reigned like a king and the town grew around the castle to become the capitol for many years.

There are other keyrings available such as black cats for luck, the ever popular Joker, and baby Yoda . ( photos on the Oithonas Arts Facebook page or Ruby and Lola’s Vintage page)

All Castle, knight and lady keyrings are £5, a very reasonable price for such careful detailing and uniqueness. They are carefully handpainted on light wood with gold or silver tone fittings.

At Oithona’s Arts we are one of Northern Ireland's multi linguistic tutors. We provide tutoring for English, French and Spanish to all levels from beginners to GCSE & advanced. Tutoring is available on a 1:1 basis or classes can be arranged. In addition to our tutoring classes we run Spanish for kids with puppets, our unique and innovative class to teach preschool & young children to learn the foundations of language from an early age. Spanish For Kids

Spanish for kids with puppets, our unique and innovative class to teach preschool & young children to learn the foundations of language from an early age. Because little children are only coming to grips with their own language and have very short attention spans, these classes start with interactively puppet scenarios, where the puppets speak every word in English and also inSpanish. We then have action songs and learning songs, colouring in( which helps with colours and words) and paper dolls to help with clothes and body part names. The classes are appropriately tailored to each of the children s likes and ages.
